Welcome to our special Projects Issue of PieceWork magazine! Inside the March/April 2015 issue, you'll find sixteen projects from an amazing team of designers worked in a wide variety of techniques, from knitting to needlework and tatting. Each is accompanied by an introduction that sets the historical context.
In this issue, Donna Druchunas adapted the patterns for her three knitted flowers from The Floral Knitting Book by A Lady, published in London in 1847. As was typical for that time, no illustrations of the completed flowers appear in the book. Donna embarked without knowing the size or appearance of the flowers. A very Victorian endeavor, indeed.
Plus, Eileen Lee looked to the long tradition of making bead-knitted bags, using very small beads for her stunning little bag.
Also featured in the March/April 2015 issue of PieceWork, Irina Stepanova sough inspiration from the mid-nineteenth-century Biedemeier period for her stunning silk-on-silk gauze motif; it's perfect inserted into the cover of a beautiful wooden jewelry box.
AND! Five of the sixteen projects reflect the focus of this year's PieceWork contest—Pincushions. Get your needles ready!
