In the first decade of the nineteenth century, wool or fur bosom-friends were specially designed tippets used to cover the low classical neckline of fashionable dresses and keep the upper chest warm. Today, a knitted bosom-friend makes a warm, easy-to-manage accent scarf.

Finished Size: About 10" wide and 75" long measured along curved lower edge, after blocking.
Yarn: The Fibre Company Canopy Worsted (50% baby alpaca, 30% Merino, 20% viscose bamboo; 200 yd [183 m]/3½ oz [100 g]): sumac, 3 skeins. Yarn distributed by Kelbourne Woolens.
Needles: Body-size 7 (4.5 mm): straight or 16" circular (cir); ribbing- size 6 (4 mm): straight or 16" cir. Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Markers (m); waste yarn; tapestry needle.
