Handwoven May/June 2017 Digital Edition

In the weaving world, there are two main approaches to finishing techniques: finishing by hand and machine-stitching handwoven projects. The May/June 2017 issue of Handwoven celebrates the patient and sometimes slow work of hand-finishing techniques.

In some cases, a combination of techniques creates a beautiful and complex finish. Tom Knisely uses a Triple Finish on his rug, which incorporates a Damascus edge with a V-shaped braid and is then finished off with a 3-strand braid. Deborah Jarchow’s shawl combines decorative stitching and a bound fringe. Nancy Dunlap wove beads directly into her scarf, then added Mexican braided fringe and a few more beads to finish.
