Iklé Birds Bag Knitting Pattern Download

Regular price $5.50 $0.00

This bag is inspired by the pattern of birds and diamonds on the Iklé fragment described and shown in the preceding article. Since the original fragment likely was worked in nålbinding, the bag is not a reproduction, but it does have some echoes of knitting history: Knitted fragments worked in elaborate color patterns in both wool and cotton are known from eleventh-century Egypt, and a shape similar to this bag is known from sixteenth-century Europe. This bag is worked from the bottom up, but the color pattern stitches are oriented the same way as in the original version in nålbinding.
